The color of tomatoes determines the health function

Tomatoes are a nutritious, juicy and delicious "fruit in the dish", but there are many kinds of tomatoes, and there are some elementary questions when selecting them. Recently, a new study in the United States shows that different colors of tomatoes have different health benefits.

Researchers at the American Horticultural Society have experimentally broken the genome of tomatoes of different colors. They found that the color of tomatoes correlated with their antioxidant levels, so the difference in color determined the nutritional value of tomatoes.

Red: The most common red tomatoes in peacetime contain a lot of lycopene. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant, which plays an important role in preventing heart disease and inhibiting certain types of cancer cells. In addition, red tomatoes also help sunscreen.

Orange: Orange tomatoes are good at resisting free radicals (anti-aging). Tocopherol, a hydrolysate rich in vitamin E, belongs to another group of potent antioxidants. Its main efficacy is to prevent skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis, and to help reduce the risk of skin cancer.

Yellow: Yellow tomatoes contain a lot of polyphenols. The main effects of this antioxidant include lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, improving arterial elasticity (preventing arteriosclerosis), and reducing platelet aggregation (preventing thrombosis).

The study's author, Elizabeth Gerson, pointed out that eating tomatoes can help improve overall health index, delay aging and prolong life span, and can be purchased according to their own health needs.
